View Full Version : Door signage - can it be hosted?

When working in Revit, I've always stuck to the mantra "model it like it actually will actually be built and your life will be easier." That being said... I have signage that needs to go on various hospital doors, and am wondering: is it possible to host it to a door so that it will follow the swing in plan, but still show up in elevations? So far my putzing around has gotten me nowhere.

And - if it's not possible, is it best to use in-place models and hide each in inappropriate views? Or just stick to line work? Please don't say "line work" - it scares me. :-P

Thanks!

Put the sign right in the family.

You can create your signage as a face based family and nest it into the door family. You can use a 'Family Type' parameter to change it in the door. When you say you want it to follow the door swing in plan what do you mean? Do you need the signage to show up in plane views? How do you want the graphics to look?

Dimitri forgot to mention linking the door number so that automatically fills in. You might also want to make your signage family 'Shared', so that you can schedule it. It might get a little tricky if your signage is on the wall next to your door, but hey have fun with it.

Aha! Good ideas all around - I think the issue has been solved now. Thanks, everyone! This forum never fails to dispel despair. ^_^

I need help creating a sign family that is on the wall, next to a door.
I want to be able to insert it with an offset from the edge of the door and tied to the door so that when I schedule the signs, it gives me the door number, the sign type, the sign text, the room number, and if possible, the nearest column intersection.
The sign should also automatically flip with the door swing, so that it is on the side of the door handle (opposite the hinges). It should also have a way to specify which side of the wall it is on (when you read the sign, does the door swing towards you or away from you).
If the door is in a corner or at the end of a corridor, I would like the sign to know whether to move to the adjacent (perpendicular) wall or move to be on the door itself.

I'm not sure if this is all do-able in one family or not, especially the bit where it moves to the adjacent wall, but any help, suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks, John

John, everything can be done that you mention except for scheduling (automatically) the nearest column and placing the signage on an adjacent wall. Well, technically using some creative visibility tricks and a creative use of parameters you COULD do the adjacent wall... but it would be a manual process and I honestly don't recommend it.
