View Full Version : Hiding the edge of a solid within a family

I have a simple cube within a family, but I want to hide one edge of it when viewed on plan.

Is there a simple way to do this?

Can you be more specific? Maybe a screen shot? I'm thinking the Linework tool set to invisible line or a Fill Region might do it, but I'm not sure I understand exactly what you want to do.

If you're trying to accomplish this (below) in plan view...

...then I believe you're best option would be to make the entire cube hidden in Plan View and then create Lines or a Filled Region or Masking Region to represent it. As stated in the previous post, you could set that one line of the Region to <Invisible Lines>.

I need the solid to be hatched on plan though......

Since you cannot directly create Filled Regions in the Family, instead create a Detail Item that consists of the desired Filled Region and embed that into the family. To be ambitious, you could create parametric controls for the size of the filled region and constrain the boundary to the edges of the cube.

Ok that works - thanks.

Now is it possible to do the same thing but at the jamb of an opening?

I'm curious why you want to do all this line hiding, especially this newest request about the jamb opening. Maybe if we understand your end goal (beyond just a graphics point of view), there will be some better suggestions than complete hacks.

I want to develop this wall jamb. I've tried various methods (using wall wraps etc) - all producing unsatisfactory results.

If I could hide a part of the jamb at the wall opening I would be able to simulate the inner wall wapping into the reveal.

In that case I think CADastrophe's suggestion, although for your first question, is the solution for your opening. I just gave it a quick test and I think you can get exactly what you want.

Damon, could you post up a file of your test. The trouble I have with using a masking region is positioning it correctly to account for lineweights. Maybe I've missed something....?

I'm not sure why you can't achieve what you want with wall wraps. Have you included 'closure' ref planes in your window family?

To to this detail with wall wraps, you need to place the inner wall [structure 1] outside the core boundary so that it wraps to meet the brickwork. That causes lots of other wall and floor junction problems.
