We are going bonkers here trying to establish why a particular view won't render.

We are attempting to setup shadow diagrams as we've done plenty of times before by setting up a 3D view orientating it to top, then doing a region raytrace on the building to get the rendered shadows (advanced model graphics shadows are not sufficient in this case). Problem is even at 75dpi, when you begin the render revit begins to redraw the view then just stops and doesn't render.

It doesn't actually crash out or anything, just chooses to not do anything. I thought it might be a memory issue (file is about 90MB) so i did a region raytrace on a very small portion but still had the same issue! We've tried it on multiple computer but no dice...

Anyone experienced this and we're missing something obvious or is it a bug!! As usual it likes to occur when urgency is at its greatest...

Pleeeasse help... (think 5th element).

I did a quick test on a very simple model and it worked fine, albeit very slow - as I always find is the case for top viewed renders, for some reason.

Are you sure Revit is actually freezing ? ( not just slowing right down while calculating ? )

Have you tested on a simple model also ?

It's not actually freezing, just not doing anything. You click render it starts thinking and then all of a sudden you have full control again and can click buttons etc etc. It never comes up with the calculating raytrace progress bar like normal...

I'll give it a go on simple model and see how it goes, but it seems odd as i've done top down shadow renderings of much larger files before?

Thanks.

Just tested on 140MB file and it rendered fine!! Methinks the file has ******* itself...

It's not actually freezing, just not doing anything.

I've had this happen before. Recreate the view and delete the problem one. That's fixed it for me in the past.
