Room Schedule positive values

I have created a room schedule that shows the actual areas of rooms. I have added an instance parameter for the department area as programmed. I subtract one from the other to get the over/under target area as a calculated field. I would like to show a plus + on over-target areas but that option is grayed out. Does Autodesk believe that all areas are positive and therefore the + is not needed?

How would I get the area of a black hole?

The plus sign is nice but I think you may like this approach a little better.
