View Full Version : 2012 "B" blocks not purging from master file

I have a file that I am using to insert as a block into a drawing. This (block) file has had other 'B'locks created within it to be used with various visibility states. I no longer require these blocks in that block file. Normal purging does not remove them as they are in the "View items you Cannot Purge" list. What do I have to do to purge these from the file? Thanks

Try using the Block Editor (-BEDIT) to delete the nested blocks that you no longer need. When done, save your changes, and they should be able to be purged.

Using block editor (-BEDIT) the block I want to remove gets opened in the Block editor. Once I get the block into the block editor what are my steps to get it to the point to be able to pu it from the main file? I have deleted all objects within that block and saved changes to block. I PU and it is still there. Please advise? Thanks

Got it! Once I have opened the main block in BEDIT I have to place another visibility state in the block (if I had removed the original). This activates the Visibility State tool bar on the upper right of the edit window. Once that activates, select the Visibility Mode on the left to view all nested blocks within the main block. Once viewable and selectable, delete them, close and save changes to the block file. While in the main block file you can now purge the nested blocks from the file. Thanks RenderMan for the direction.

Now what about those pesky ones that you cannot view, see or find, but you can select them and insert them while using the insert command? These seem to be nested deeper. How does one find to delete, the layers, dimensions, and other objects that might be nested but cannot be purged?

You're welcome; Happy to help.

Anything added by a user, and even most things added OOTB, can be purged... It's simply a matter of finding the defining reference... So keep digging Watson! LoL

FWIW - The only way that I am aware that one can make something unable to be purged, is to do so via the .NET API (and perhaps that of ObjectARX, not sure).

when totally frustrated, and ready to kill the drawing, you can download SuperPurge from Owen (manusoft.com).

be aware of all the caveats -- you may end up purging out stuff that's actually needed....
