Autodesk Labs has a screen capture utility called Project Chronicle (http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/chronicle/) but I'm having trouble seeing the point of it. As far as I can see the advantage of this utility is supposed to be that is also records the timing and details of workflow information, such as the tools, settings, and dialog boxes that are used during the workflow. Most everything else can be done using Camstudio-recorder (http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/).

I can't see how this workflow function works, can anyone explain it to me? Or maybe it just doesn't work yet? I've just installed it and will start playing when I get a chance - but for now, has anyone tried it? What are your impressions?

Edit: oh ****, it only works with Revit 2013

Duncan - thank you! Great timing. I had to make a video today and was prepared to request funds for Camtasia Studio. That free utility works fairly well. The avi looks good anyway. The swf conversion didn't work for me, it just made a jumbled video. I would have stuck with the avi but 4GB for ten minutes is a little high... hehe. I used Handbrake to convert it to a more manageable 300MB mp4. Still large, but it'll do for now.

Yes antman Camstudio is pretty good - and in contrast to Jing you get a useful file you can work on afterwards. The only thing I'm considering now is making a mouse icon more like the one from Project Chronicle. In Camstudio you can specify the color of the circle behind the mouse when you make a right / left click. If I make a little mouse with the same colors on the button (I use the nautical red / green) that should help people understand why the colors change. I haven't worked out how the annotations tools work yet. It also has good compression built in - just change the video format to mp4 or something similar.
