i have a simple fence line type with "x"s....if i draw the line straight up or to the right it looks perfect. but if i draw it anywhere to the left then the Xs are off centered. How can i correct this?
thanks

The reason is most likely the font used to make the x. If you used a Leroy style, the letters are not defined from the center, so offsets can happen.
Also, if the line has different elevations on it's end vertexes, that can freak it out
Does the style driving you linetype have a set height? That causes problems too.

If you post the Linetype definition and the font assigned to the text style someone could clean it up for you. I wouldn't use text for your linetype though. Try this one instead.
*FENCE, Fence -per FDOT's AUTOCAD Users Supplement---- X ---- X ---- X ---- X ---- X ----
A,.5,-.025,[TRACK1,ltypeshp,r=135,s=.08],0,[TRACK1,ltypeshp,r=45,s=.08],-.025,.5
I didn't know any fonts were defined from center, always had to include Y=-something when using text styles. Made trying to use absolute rotation useless.

I would go with Tom and use the standard style if possible. If this isnt possible then check the rotation marker isnt set to "upright or easy to read" it is the figure after the s=X, U= denote easy read R=denote relative rotation and A=absolute.
