View Full Version : Slanted Columns - Twisting when adjusted on Elevation

I've got an issue with slanted columns. The building facade gets these "trough" a curtain wall, but every time I adjust the column's top/bottom it twists in plan. Which means I need to go back to the plan an re-align the column's center onto the grid line. This is what I have:
87973

It's not an issue, but due to the twist this kind of thing happens:
87974
Notice how it's "bending" outwards?

Which now means I have to go into the plan view and align it to the gridline:
87975
This becomes a pain, not to mention I can easily miss one and only notice it too late.

Also is there any way to join-geometry between crossing columns? I've tried, but it simply will not join, I can cut one from the other but not join two together. This means there's these crossing lines where there shouldn't be any, even placing an Invisible line through Linework onto the elevation / 3d View only goes half-way - you can only pick a line and then you loose the entire corner of the column.

There is a reason the columns are "twisting" out of alignment. Are they associated with a Grid or Reference Plane? When editing the top and bottom, perhaps the inputs are causing the columns to go out of plane? Try placing a Grid in Plan view at the centerline of your columns. You may need to create a new "straight" column, tie it to the Grid, and then change it to a slanted column.

That's the whole point. I've tried with a grid line, tied the column to it, then set the gridline as the workpane in the elevation and only then adjusted the top. Even if I make sure not to hover the drag-point over something like a slab-edge, the drag seems to snap to something and move off the gridline as well as twisting. As I've said it's not too difficult to fix after the fact - it's just a schlep.

Not to mention, the design calls for columns starting halfway-up another column, so it's possible that such may not be shown in the plan view. So I have to adjust the plan view's cutting pane to see these so I can re-align them to the grid.
