View Full Version : 'Ceiling' Height Tag

My ceiling height tag is an oval with the text in the middle. On the ceiling plan I need to also call out the height where I have a wall continuation acting as a soffit (see attached image for explanation). Since I can't use a ceiling tag on a wall object, I thought a spot elevation would work. Unfortunately, I can't get the spot elevation to put the text in the middle of the oval - I have to manually drag it for each tag. Any better methods I could use to accomplish this?

Would it be acceptable to create a Generic Ceiling there and constrain it to the perimeter and height of the Wall's surface?

Possibly. I would have to paint the vertical faces to match the wall, right? Also, the way I have this modeled right now is with a door family to create the hole, and symbolic lines so it shows dashed in the floor plan. It seems to me that in Revit 2009 or 2010 it was possible to adjust the view range to make the ceiling visible, then use the Linework tool, then set the view range back and the lines would remain. I can't seem to get that to work now. Am I crazy?
I guess that another way to cheat it would be to create a really thin layer ceiling in addition to what I already have modeled. I'd just rather not do that because it adds more complexity (and team frustration) when the design changes.

In MEP, we have the option to create a 'Basic Ceiling', rather than a 'Compound Ceiling'. The Basic ceiling has no structure - it's only a single plane. I had also created a View Filter that hid these 'fake' ceilings for 3D Views.

I'd suggest you change your standard to allow for a different looking tag at the header.
