Why would View range affect referenced autocad file visibility?

Hello,

First off I am a complete newbie to revit. The issue I am having is trying to change the view range of a floor plan (that is depicting a site plan) so my site plan does not cut through a first floor but only shows the roof plan. However When I change the “Offset:” number in the “Top” option in the View Range window from 7'4" to 55" a linked autocad file depicting site details disappears. However when I only change the offset to 10', as opposed to 55' the autocad file is remains. How can I show the rooftop without making the linked autocad file disappear? Is there a way to modify the linked autocad file so that it is always visible regardless of the view range?

Why not simply use the default Site view that comes with the default template, instead of trying to create a Site view from a floor plan making changes to view range? Insert the .dwg file in the site view instead.

Thank you for the option. But I do no know how to do this. Would this have to been done right at the start or could I change the current view into a site view? And do I have to create a template or does revit provide a generic one?

There is usually a default template, that comes with a view named as "Site". Use that view for your site, and use the floor plan view for your layout, each view has its own view range settings.

If for any reason you dont have any, it's basically a Level 1 with a View Range set to:
Cut Plane: 100000
Top: 1000000
