Summary: Most companies use a variety of templates, each with its own structure and DWS file for auditing purposes. As such, AutoCAD should have a system variable that houses the template name currently loaded. In doing so, audits can be automated and other user defined routines could be streamlined based upon the template variable name.
Description: Most companies use a variety of templates, each with its own structure and DWS file for auditing purposes. As such, AutoCAD should have a system variable that houses the template name currently loaded.
By referencing this variable in a LISP, VLISP, VBA, or other such routine or user defined command, the design and implementation of the routine can be streamlined. Currently the only way to determine the template name in use is to check against a layer, linetype, text, or dimension style that is unique to that template. This becomes harder to perform each time a new template is created.
In knowing the template name the routine can then know what is expected, thus making error-handling easier.
