Not sure if this has been covered before, but why on earth cant I use shift, ctrl, or alt when I customize keyboard accelarators??? Revit is the only piece of software I have ever used that gives the option to customize keyboard accelarators but NOT the option to use these keys. Very dissapointed by this to be honest.

Revit at the outset tried to make AutoCAD users happy with keyboard shortcuts. For AutoCAD users this means typed in keystrokes, not accelerators. More could be done with accelerators, but at least they let us program the F keys.
But AutoCAD has the ability to use those keys (not all of them, but quite a few).
It should allow you to customize the keyboard accelerators like in acad.mns under ***ACCELERATORS section.
I guess it will come soon though...

I'll tell you what I'll be posting on the WishList (if it's not already there) is ability to keyboard shortcut to the items on the Options Bar. I'm one of those who could go lots faster if I didn't have to curse-around (no pun intended) for command buttons.
