Hosting ceiling on bottom of stair?

Why am I not able to get a ceiling to host to a workplane or mass? I'll use the slope arrow, that's fine, but I'm just wondering why this isn't an option.
I've tried making a mass and attach a ceiling face to it, only to find that is not an option. I've tried creating a named reference plane and attaching it to that with no success. This is pretty common to finish the undersides of stairs for my firm. Wish list material?
Haven't found ANY comment on this in the forum or Google. Seems like this would have come up for someone already.
Any ideas?

I can actually say it would be nice to be able to host to the bottom of a stair, at least to the face and offset from there. I had to tweak it a few times (the ceiling) to get it to work right. Was even more fun that I had multiple landings.
