View Full Version : no text showing up in Mtext Editor

:banghead: somehow or another my users find the most creative ways of breaking their installations of AutoCAD. I don't know how but they just do :D Anyhow, on one of my users machines the mtext editor does not work (AutoCAD2k5) For some reason the text is not viewable in the editor, The user can type in the editor and the text shows, but the preview is just a blank box. This is not the font smoothing problem mentioned in the Autodesk knowledgebase: this text does not show up at all, but I tried that solution anyway with no avail.

If anybody has experienced this I would be interested in knowing how to fix it.

Hi

Please note I've *moved* this thread from the Software (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=117) Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Am I correct with the following -

Text within the Multiline Editor is not visible.

But the same Text is visible within the drawing.

It might be easier and a lot quicker just to do a repair install on AutoCAD 2005.

Have a good one, Mike

I was thinking that myself, and then as a joke one of my coworkers asked if the text was zoomed in to far in the editor, so I call the user up "Hey, try holding control and scrolling with the mouse" sure enough here comes the text. go figure. I just need now to figure out if I can change the default text zoom

Try the MTEXTFIXED variable

Type: Integer
Saved in: Registry
Initial value: 0
Controls the appearance of the Multiline Text Editor.

0 Displays both the Multiline Text Editor and the text within it at the size and position of the multiline text object in the drawing. Text too large or too small to be edited is displayed at a minimum or maximum size.

1 Displays the Multiline Text Editor at a fixed position and size based on last use, and displays text in the editor at a fixed height.

What version of windows are you running? I know on 98 or 2000 (right click on desktop & pick Properties) if "smooth screen fonts" is checked in "Effects" in Display Properties' Appearence tab you will have those results.

I have just finished installing autocad 05 through the office, and i notice that people with older computers have problems with seeing ANY text in the mtext editor. You don't get the blinking text line for when you type, but if you type something and hit OK- it will show up in the drawing. If you go to the mtext editor (double click, button or typing in the command) again the text isn't shown. Can this be a driver issue? What about the processor in the computer????? I'm stumped.

Have you checked out the following

AutoCAD FAQ: The text in the Mtext editor is faint and very hard to read. (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=16251)

Or is this not the same problem you are having?
