I noticed that after I copied my drawing files to a new harddrive and I try to look at the properties of an item in the drawing the properties pane opens but the information is missing such as length, etc. Any reason for this? I thought all of this info is part of the dwg file. I have autocad 2004.

yes, any entity property is part of the drawing file -- with the caveat that some properties are derived, eg the length of a line is not stored, but is calculated from the XYZ coordinates of the end points.
If the propeties panel is not displaying the information it should, then i would suggest re-installing your Acad software. something is probably corrupt.

Just a silly question... In the Properties palette (when say a Line is selected), is there a Geometry node, and if so is it expanded? *Covering basics*
