Hi,
If there are topics on this here, it would be great if you could let me know where they are, i've had a search but not yet found the answer...

I need to model a simple tunnel, 3m dia with 150mm thick wall and a more complex shaped tunnel.

Now in Microstation (and i assume Autocad) i would draw a centreline, a line really along the path with Z values at certain points to give the line of the tunnel.
i would then draw the shape i want to, extrude along the path, select it, select path and its done....to be honest very simple...

How is this achieved in Revit??, i just cant seem to get the sweep to follow the path as there are to many curves and it seems to stay at a constant level, it jsut doesnt seem simple to me yet......

This in in Revit Struc 2012, i assume other versions are no better at this?

any help would be great

cheers

I have an example for you about tunnel profile.
Please visit my blog:

I hope this will inspire you.

Sounds like your sketch path is set to flat work plane. Try this before you start sweep for your tunnel.
Outside of sweep tool use model lines to create 3D path, you will have to setup multiple planes and change planes to complete 3D path.
Now go back to sweep tool, do not pick sketch path, below you should see pick path. use this and pick your 3D path from model lines.
apply your tunnel profile, and this should create non-planar 3D tunnel.

Maybe someone has other methods to sketch 3D line paths in Revit..?
Import of 3D autocad dwg file does not work, if you explode dwg file the 3D linework flattens
to work plane that the dwg was inserted.

The best way to create more complex 3D objects, would be to use Adaptive Based Family.
