Can't I create a closed spline through points?

I am working on a conceptual mass where I want to loft a very organic form and I want to create a closed spline through points, but it does not seem possible. What am I missing? Is there no way to create a closed spline or a closed spline through points?

I find the spline tool quite un- user friendly. You can't chamfer it, you can't pull the end of it to adjust without it going crazy, and you can't do the above. It sucks.

To answer the above, you can draw sketch lines prior to drawing the spline and move the spline grips to that, but that's not what you want.
