Stud Size in Wall Tag

I'm looking for a user friendly way to get the stud size of a wall into our wall tags. I know that I can create a new type parameter and label that in the tag, but that will require users that create new walls to manually update the field. Is there any way to push a field from the materials editor to the family type so that when you define a wall with a 6" stud wall, you select the material to be a 6" Metal Stud Layer, set the thickness to 6" then the type parameter will be set to 6" from the material I'm selecting? Alot to ask I know.

A lot to ask, I know.Yes, you are asking too much out of a tag or the materials editor. A tag or a material definition cannot drive the thickness of a wall. Simply, make a good list of wall types to choose from, with all the proper information included in each type. If you want to display the stud size in the wall tag, enter that information in a type parameter such as "Type Comments", and then add that field to the wall tag.

Many firms use Type Mark values that define the structural width. A wood stud wall using a 2x6 might be referred to as "P6" or "P6-2" for 2 hour rating. A metal framing wall might be "M6-1".

Thanks for the replies everyone. I assumed I was asking too much, but wanted to put a feeler out there to see if I was missing some cool trick. I not super jazzed about our wall naming method at this time. We will be using 3 separate fields to note each wall, the assembly type, fire rating and stud size. A bit laborious to look at on our drawings, but that's the current standard.
