I am trying to join a hipped dormer to an existing gable roof. Whenever I use the join roof command I get the following error:

"Part of the roof to be joined misses the target face."

What is up and which part of what roof is missing what? It is clear from the picture that the dormer intersects the roof...If I make the dormer a simple gable, it works fine. All I have to do is remove the slope defining toggle from the gable end...Arrghh.

I had the same issue. The simple answer is it should work as you have tried. The way to make it work, in my case, is to edit the sketch and drag the line defining the roof side edge way into the roof then use the roof join tool. You can think of it as a cut rather than an extension.

I think the reason for the issue is that you need to establish a ridge line at the dormer. It seems as thought yours is just short of that, and the sloped face is parallel to the face it is trying to join to.

I do what I can, when I can.
