View Full Version : 2013 EXPORT IMAGE : stumped on the poor result

I am just trying to get some quick process images exported from the model for client meetings and am not getting what I am used to getting. I've included a composite of the variations below, but here's a description:

Goal: export Hidden Line views with ambient shadows.

The edges of objects usually are very crisp lines and the overall quality of the image is great. The size crop of this view is 10.5"x7", so exporting it at 100% seems reasonable. What you see in the image I've attached below is a very pixilated image, no linework at all for the object edges and odd white lines through the image. And then on the far right I did an export of the view with the ambient shadows off and the image was entirely white, no linework at all.

Plan views are generally working, but there will be certain areas of the view that are blocked out. Almost like there is a masking region over an area of the model (which I know for a fact there is not one).

Thank you for your input!

Maybe try to use TIFF instead of PNG?

I reported the white lines problem to Autodesk in November 2012. After some experimentation, I had found that the necessary conditions are
- high resolution image
- hidden-line or shaded visual style
- perspective view
- ambient shadows enabled.

Here is the reply from subscription tech support:

"Development came back with the following:

The 'breaking point' seems to be 4096 pixels wide - anything over this will have white lines in it. If you go to 5500 wide, you will get both horizontal and vertical lines.

There also seems to be an upper limit to the lines - if you export an image that is 5535 pixels wide, the lines go away.

Also worth noticing is that the bricks are missing on the front in the images between 4250-5000 pixels wide. [This was an exterior rendering.]

Development is still looking into this, but it would seem that you found the upper limit on rendering inside Revit. I'm not sure if you can export out to another application, but bar a code change which was not mentioned I'm not sure what else I can offer."

Fun, huh? I had to do a LOT of retouching in Photoshop fixing the white lines. Got pretty good with the perspective selection retouch method.

Oh, i remember reading something about the screen resolution also.
I run at 2560 x 1440 might be why i cant see the problem :)

Here it is

Thanks dhurtubise. I am still confused as to why the linework of all the object edges disappears in both exports?

wbi, why don't you try setting the size in pixels instead of the zoom. Then you can control the size based on the information above and perhaps get around the problems you're having. Just a thought.

Thanks for the thought damon.sidel. I tried with the same result, just poorer quality.
