Before I came to my current office, they predominantly used boxed text with arrows to denote the extents of their shear walls in wood framed buildings. I tried to make something a little more elegant / standardized and created a family with text box, and pull arrows. The problem is that I found is that I couldn't create a family with arrows that I could pull, as well as text that I can modify.. within an Annotation family. So I had to create a Generic Model family, with annotation elements that are only seen in Plan view.

I'm wondering if anyone has some tips on how to make this perform better, or if you have any better ways of denoting your shear walls. I've attached a file with the annotation I'm using.

Thanks,

I use a edit and make special dimension type to indicate shear walls, I like to show length of wall and also provide hatch pattern.

I've shaded the cut pattern before for shear walls. Looks nice, easy to denote....then we provide an elevation of the wall and typical cuts at corners and bar elevations for the field of it, along with any additional bars at openings.
