Good Day All,
I have a external reference file that is drastically slowing down the speed of my computer function when I am in AutoCAD 2013. I went to the 'original' external reference file (Dwg 1) and the speed is fine,
unattached the xref in the drawing (Dwg 2) and it is fine. When I reload that drawing file as an Xref (Dwg 1) into Dwg. 2, the speed is slowed and efficiency plummets. I purged both drawings of unneccessary
layers (those that were allowed to purge) and Dwg 2 is still slow when Dwg 1 is attached. I even detached the xref and made Dwg 1 a block and pasted it into Dwg 2 and it is still slowed.

What am I doing wrong??

How are you attaching your xrefs? With Attach or Overlay? What are the file sizes of the drawings that you are xrefing?

Had an issue like that with some files from an architect. Solutions I found were:

1. Go into all files I was going to use as Xref's and unattach the other xrefs (remembering to insert them all when I need them)

2. for the troublesome file I WBLOCK it into an new file and save over the old file. Issues "seems" to disappear.

Try to audit and fix errors if found and then remove all not used annotative scales and see if that makes any difference.

True that should be done 1st then if no luck follow the steps I listed.
