After watching a video about rendering with 3DS Max I'm halfway sold on a HP SH886A Tesla 2070 Graphic Card for my computer which is a Dell t1600 workstation...this is the link to the video: (the graphics card reference starts at 6:30)

http://vimeo.com/43512833

And the link to the graphics card I believe he is talking about:

I should also note that I'm using to 27 inch monitors in case the graphics card has any issues with that..

Really whats selling me on the graphics card is that I can still use programs that require more CPU power such as Revit while I wait for my renders to complete in 3DS Max and also I am hoping the renders will go much much faster…

My question is am I completely off-base considering buying this with the set up that I have or could it be a worthwhile investment considering I do a lot of rendering…

Thanks in advance for any input,

For roughly $1500 to $1800 that you spend on that you could almost get a new Quadro K5000, which would completely obliterate what an M2070 can do, plus save on your power supply (122W vs. 220+Watts) 3dsmax with iRay or Octane render would utilize that card 99.999% and renders would be near instantaneous. ;) Trust me, I've got a K4000 and it rocks my world, the K5000 has twice the performance.

There's also the option to run a K2000 with a GTX Titan for roughly $1500 too. No, ...nah, you would want to do that, that's 2Gb Quadro card (optimal drivers for Revit and 3dsMax) and a 2500+ processor beast w/ 6Gb ram. ;)
M2070 was yesterday's technology even when it arrived 5 years ago. They quickly supplemented the 2070 for the 2075 for power consumption reasons. It was a bad card.

whoa hold the phone. Instantaneous is a pretty big claim. Right now renders that are new and not have quality are taking about half an hour and because I was using mental Ray, the CPU was doing all the work. I just installed v-ray which I believe has the ability to take advantage of the graphics card(?) so that's why I was thinking of getting a nicer card. I was also going to try rebus render farm online because it seems like that might be a smart way to go. Does anyone have any experience with that? I'll probably get the K4000 just for fun also, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. Thanks for the input. Also I'm just curious, what processor do you have?

I think what he meant is, "practically instantaneous". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf23h9T6p6E

I would agree it is nearly instantaneous IF, IF, IF you don't mind the "peppering" look that iRay initially gives as it progressively gets better. Most people can't afford a series of Quadro 6000's and M2090's to do what they do in that video link. ;)
I would agree that the M2070 is junk compared to the new quadro's that are out that utilize their GPU's better. Not sure how GeForce cards ultimately play out. I'd be willing to try.
