No type mark?

I just realized that none of our families has type mark parameters. I even opened a blank project and none of the families had type mark parameters either. I know that this is a shared parameter, but I don't know how to incorporate it into my project/Revit.

All families have the Type Mark parameter listed iunder the Identity Data group in the Type Propeties dialog, click Edit Type to see that. It is possible that this group is not expanded, click on the title bar (Identity Group) to see the list appear. Type Mark values are assigned in the project, we can't store a value in advance in the family itself.

Though it technically behaves like one, it isn't part of the shared parameters that we manage. Since it is defined by the Revit developers internally (hard coded) I prefer to call it a "system" parameter.

Thanks, I actually found the type mark parameter when I clicked Edit type, but I can't get it to show up simply under properties. I couldn't find the identity group title bar.

That's because while an element is selected, what you're looking at in Properties are the Instance Parameters. You have to go to Type Properties in order to see/modify the Type Parameters.'

"Type Mark" is a Type Parameter, and "Mark" is the equivalent Instance Parameter, hence, "Mark" appears in Properties.

Identity Data "group" is visible in your image, it is a silver/gray border in the properties dialog.

Type Mark is a Type Parameter, you won't find it in the Properties Palette, only Instance Parameters appear there. Type parameters are shared (stay the same value always) among copies of a family type while Instance parameters can be unique values among copies of the same family. Mark is an Instance Parameter, each door has a unique Mark parameter (door number).

yes thanks! I just remembered it being directly under the properties diaglogue box in previous versions of Revit. I could be wrong, though.

The only way it could be an instance parameter is if someone created another shared parameter using the same name and made it an instance parameter. The Revit one is hard wired.
