PLEASE: Don't criticize me... we are still using 2012. I know the most correct answer to my question is "upgrade to 2013", but my hands are tied for the moment. So I will ask...

We have a consultant who is using Revit for the first time. We had a(n admittedly informal) Revit kick-off meeting and clearly stated that we would all have to use Revit 2012. Needless to say, said consultant just shared their first Revit model with us and lo-and-behold... they used Revit 2013!

Are their other options--besides exporting to DWG or upgrade to 2013--for us to salvage their work and remain in 2012?

Nope.

Either they redo in 2012, or you upgrade to 2013. Revit is (and never has been) backwards compatible.

You could use IFC to at least see his work in your file.

Hmm, interesting idea. That might be a temporary fix.
