New Project Using an Old Model

We did a project for a client a few years ago and they have decided to do some additional work on the same building. This would be a new project so I don't want any of the previous details or sheets used for the new project. I've also done a substantial amount of work to the template since then so I'd like to utilize that work. What I was about to do is link the model into a new project and then bind the link but I realized this will destroy all the phasing for the project. I know I can transfer project standards but I don't love that idea. Anyone have good ideas?

Currently doing the exact same thing. It's quite a small alteration though.

I just made a copy of the original project, upgraded it, deleted everything except base level views and did a purge. I then transferred project standards from our template which has worked fine. I had to adjust the phasing so "New Construction" in the old project became "Existing" in the new project.
