I do realize there is an unmask text, along with masking....the problem is, when you erase text that had text mask turned on....the mask still exists, and naturally at that point text unmask won't work. I do realize that I can take my motors, conveyors, etc...that has been blocked by the text mask and use display order--bring to front....I was just wondering if there was a quicker more convenient function to get rid of the mask that apparently stays in place after the text is gone...or is it simply a matter of being more disciplined in unmasking the text before erasing, or using display order....
Thanks!

An option within the "Wipeout" command is to turn on frames. If you select this option, the frames for the text mask will be visible to delete.

That is true....I know about the wipeout...so basically where the text was...turn the frame on through wipeout...and go and delete all of them...that will work, thank you! I was just thinking maybe there was a one command option that I may have been missing...

Bill, if you are on 2005 you can use background mask. Open the mtext editor and right click. Then pick background mask. Background mask is different than text mask. I think background mask is new in '05.

FYI: Background mask in 2005 does not work if you have the lines merge option turned ON in your plot driver - which of course we require.

I'm still using 02.
If it is still the same, when you mask text, a group is formed.
Make sure groups are turned on (ctrl+A) and the mask will erase with the text. :-o

i delete orphan masks by using tframes to get the frames to show
then
i use ssx, select using "entity", my entity is "wipeout"

text mask very nice but it can get really sloppy

To ensure you do not leave the text frames behind in the first place just ensure that you have "object grouping" checked as "on" in the TOOLS>OPTIONS>SELECTION tab. Then when you delete the text the frame will also be deleted.

Tip!
If you need to ever wipe out behind a attributed tag in a block you can do the following:
1. Place a piece of text the size of the attribute you intend to use.
2. Place a wipeout for it.
3. Place the attribute over the top.
4. Turn off object grouping and delete the piece of text. Leaving behind the text frame.
5. Create your block in the usual way.

Cheers
AZA.
