inches instead of feet and inches

How do I change the reading of a dimesion to read 12" instead of 1'-0"
I don need this in all dims only in the ones that are too small to fit the whole text.

you can't do it mid-string in a single string. But you can create a new "inches" style for the portion that needs to be in inches. (duplicate current style, override units to read in fractional inches)

And once you've done as Chris says, just slide the new inches style dimension over the old and it will snap in place and (hopefully) hide the old dimension if set to opaque.
