Hi Karen

Please note I have moved this from the new user forum to this one as I believe this would be more of a general AutoCAD problem instead of a LDT problem.

Also changed the title to reflect the question.

can you clarify what you mean about being unable to access them?

are you not seeing the layer dialog? if so, how are you accessing it? button? pull-down? typing _layer at the command line?

or, are you unable to modify layer properties once you're in the layer dialog?

any details might help...

Sorry I was not very clear, what I mean is when we go to the layers property manager box on the top toolbar and click on the layers icon nothing happens, it will not open. The same happens when we try typing the word layers on the command line, or we try to access it from the pull down menu. It is as if it does not recognize that there are layers. However if we click on the arrow that pulls down the layer names in the layer manager we can see that they are all there we just can not use them.

oh, it's possible that your dialog boxes are turned off, I think...

try typing in cmddia in command line and changing the setting... there might be other variables to affect this, I'd have to do a search (http://forums.augi.com/search.php?)...

Hi

Are you running any kind of Registry Repair software?

If yes, that could be the problem.

Try a repair install, if running Anti-Virus software, temporally disable it while performing the repair install.

Have a good one, Mike

okay, here (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?p=84657&highlight=cmddia+dialog#post84657) are listed the settings that might affect dialog visibility...

thanks for the prompt reply I tried the solutions that you suggested and they do not work except that now we get a message box that says
(an Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.
the exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation)
do you think that there is something wrong with our program?

Hi

Simple answer, yes.

Personally I would perform a complete un-install of all Autodesk product(s).

If running Anti-Virus software, temporally disable it.

Re-install Autodesk product(s).

Do you run Registry Repair software?

Have a good one, Mike

I appreciate the help

I am having the same problem but it comes and goes with the weather I think. I installed Autocad's SP 1 am using plain old Autocad 2005 with their raster 2005 design package sometimes and running on XP. I do not have any control over my registry and my IT support will twist their head if I ask.
Are there any other solutions?

Hi

I personally do not use Raster Design, but I have heard / read that there can be issues / problems with it.... with that said is your Raster Design 2005 fully up to date -

Autodesk Raster Design - Data & Downloads (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/linkedsumindex?siteID=123112&id=2334430&linkID=2476535)

Mike, How do I know what SP I have on my system? I just installed both ACAD & Raster a couple weeks ago. Is Autodesk that cheap that they do not give us the latest?

It is not! a case of being cheap....

You buy the software, in this case AutoCAD 2005 & Raster Design 2005 (No Service Packs included).

It is then down to yourself to go to the Autodesk web site (not quite true any more seeing as AutoCAD 2005 has the Communication Center that will automatically inform you of available updates), download for free! and install any Updates / Service Packs / etc that you choose.

Determine current product information for AutoCAD 2005 -> Help -> About -> Product Information button, top right corner.

Determine current product information for Raster Design 2005 -> Pass.

Have a good one, Mike

I understand, I am just complaining or blowing off steam. The way we go about getting things updated around here is poor. We are always in a hurry and skip some key points or thoughts like this one. I should have had the IT person check for updates. I did find out about the SP 1 for ACAD 2005 through the Communication Center, which I love by the way. I do not think it works within or for Raster.
Thanks for your help. You always point me in a good direction.

To add a little to Mikes post. Majority of the CDs out there were made before the service pack was released. Since Autodesk probably has this down to a science, they know how many to make when the release a new version and don't need to make to many more afterwards. If they only released a new version like every 3 or 4 years, you probably would see CD with the SP included. Like Microsoft does with Windows.

There is another place you can check if your up to date. Go to Help=>About. In the dialog you should see a button called Product Information.

Take a look at this, it's from the Autodesk Knowledge Base.

Layer Manager takes long time to load compared to previous release (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=4494112&linkID=2475323)
