View Full Version : 2014 Revit 2014 Corrupts Menus of Previous Versions

I just installed Revit 2014, and now my Revit 2012, and Revit 2013 ribbon menu gets screwed up every time I select an object. The options on the ribbon for that object are either wrong or missing altogether. I have to cycle through all the ribbon menu displays (little button at the top right) until I"m back to the full menu display, which then looks correct, but after selecting edit sketch, or anything else, the menu is screwed up again and I have to cycle through the ribbon display options again for it to display correctly.

So, it's all of the Context menu items that get scrambled for anything selected in the model, sketch mode, or the family editor.

This occured on two intallations: Windows 7 PC, and Windows 7 on Parallels, both with 2012 and 2013 running flawlessly prior to installing 2014.

Anyone else?

Thanks!

UPDATE SUNDAY 4-21-13

It's a .NET thing

Here's the fix:

Fixed with .net hot fix
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=21344242&linkID=9273944

So to make a short story long, evidence suggests that the ribbon problem has nothing to do with Revit 2014 so much as it does the version of .NET that it installs during intallation (look .net up in wikipoedia if you have trouble sleeping). Nothing has chnaged in the other application folders, they just don't work so well with the new .net runing elseware in the computer.

The hotfix has you manually replace the adWindows.dll in the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit Architecture 2012\Program folder with a newer version that works with the new .net.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (Autodesk?), but I'm guessing that we'll have to perform this manual hotfix on every installation of Revit 2012 and 2013 until it get's rolled into an update 1 for Revit 2014 or perhaps there's a more automated fix routine in the works (he said hopefully)?

Cheers!

Update 2 for 2013 fixes the .NET 4.5 problem.

We are experiencing the same issue (2014 disabling contextual features of menus in 2013). We attempted to run Update as mentioned above, but get "INSTALLATION ERROR: The Update Release could not be installed because the expected Autodesk product could not be located on your computer."

We have the networked version of the Building Design Suite. I assume this is the culprit. Is there a BDS version of Update 2? Is there another workaround? Very frustrating.

Did you have BDS for 2013?
I've had some problems trying to install Navis Exporters because we have Revit Architecture installed, which was part of the AutoCAD/Revit suite.
With the upgrade to BDS, we got Navis Simulate, but the exporters don't recognize RAC - only the BDS version of Revit.
(Hope that didn't just confuse the issue even more)

Really? Revit 2013 is the only version that uses the exporters and suite workflow? Interesting.
