Unable to select objects via their Grips

Ok I have a retarded question !! I should know this off the top of my head but my brain is not working. When I select three lines and the grips on the end come up. I then I hold my shift key to select all three and nothing happens. What variable turn that on and off.

Are GripColor & GripHot set to the same colour?

Sure !! You hold select and click inside the grip and it does not fill in. I have the grips blue for the unselected color and red for the selected color. So I don't see red :)

If PICKADD is set to 0, you need to hold shift while selecting to add to the selection set. But if PICKADD is set to 1, holding shift while selecting removes the object from the current selection set. Is that what you're looking for?

This variable probably got inadvertly switch by clicking the PLUS button in the properties palette -- been there, done that.............
