View Full Version : 2013 Problem with model in-place - profile - sweep

I'm trying to model in-place>profile>sweep to make wood trim for corner boards, skirt boards, gable end trim, etc. and I keep getting an error that I can't figure out.

My frustration is that just a couple of days ago I did this and it worked. Now it won't work.

I'm using model in-place>profile>sweep - OK; sketch path or pick path (around a trap. window for example) - OK; select profile & adjust flip and angle - OK; edit plane (if needed) - OK (looks great at this point); hit Finish Model button - NO OK - I get an error box w/ 2 errors: 1) Can't regenerate Family "Profile 1". Edit Family to modify it. 2) Profile type "Profile 1:Profile 1" contains no loops.

It doesn't matter which profile I pick - whether it's one that I made (which is really simple, just 2x sizes) or a stock OOTB shape, I get the same message.

It doesn't matter if I make a single straight line, a couple of lines, or a closed polygon. Same message.

Once I get the profile set, before I hit the Finish Model button, the sweep looks great. But when I hit the button, the error pops up and I either have to delete it or press cancel and go back to editor mode.

I've used the wall sweep tool - both horizontal and vertical - with the same profile, and it works. But I need to create sloped trim, hence the model in-place sweep.

What am I missing? Thanks much in advance. mpp

Perhaps a screen shot would help explain this.

I'm trying, but I can't upload a screen shot. The uploader isn't working for me. I made a PDF and when I try to upload it, it gets 99% uploaded, and then I get a red X next to the file name.

Nothing seems to be working out for me lately. grrrr

just FYI - I figured out my issue. When I selected component > model in-place, I was then selecting "Profile" as the family. That was my error. When I select another family type, such as "Window", I can create the in-place profile for my window trim. I realize this may not be the best practice, but it works for me for now. Thanks! mpp
