Diving right into Revit with no formal classes or training (yet) is challenging...so I thought I'd start through some of the tutorials to get a good foundation. The tutorial that shows how to cut a roof opening to expose the innards of a gable dormer has me wondering. The result shown in the 3d Attic view is a joke. That's not how a dormer should work. What's up? Is there no way to model a dormer roof intersecting the main roof with a clean dihedral at the bottom centerline of the valley rafter?

Looks to me like it should be just a matter of adjusting the edges of the roof opening and the side walls of the dormer. In that tutorial it appears the the edges of the roof opening follow either the face or maybe the core of the dormer's side walls. I would guess that it would look cleaner inside if the edges of the opening followed the inside face of the side walls. Then you could join geometry to get rid of any extraneous lines running down the middle of the walls.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
