Has anyone else encountered this? When setting your browser organization to phase, drafting views end up in their own wacky category called "???". Not a big issue, I just thought it was a little weird.

Drafting views do not support a notion of phase and therefore there is no user supplied name that Revit could use as a folder name to contain them In such cases Revit makes up a folder with question marks in place of a name.

There are other situations besides organizing views by phase when you may end up with folders named this way.

Maybe it should say "No Phase" instead of "???".

Or maybe "Drafting Views" since they don't do Phases?

and why three ??? and not four ???? ????? ;)

There are numerous ways how user can set up browser in such a way that Revit would not be able to use user-supplied name for a folder. For example one can make a custom view organization where top level folder is grouped by associated level. Then all elevations, sections, 3d, etc. would go into top level ??? folder. It is also possible to make ??? appear on several levels of browser hierarchy. Instead of developers spending their time coming up with naming conventions for all these numerous cases we thought that they better implement other enhancements. Especially considering the necessity to have folder naming (A) work in all languages and (B) avoid possible conflicts with user typed names. Some inventive architect could call one of his phases "No Phase" and thus Revit can't use this name for drafting views in phase-based view organizations. Since question mark is not allowed in a name, it seemed that using it in system generated name was adequate/appropriate.

As far as using ??? vs ???? for a name I guess that may a wishlist item.

Please don't think that I am upset with questions and friendly suggestions. I know that people are not really bothered by the current behavior of browser organization. I am simply trying to explain some of the reasoning that went into implementation.

Now that you explain it, I would have to agree that this is an issue of almost no significance. I just thought the "???" was a little curious. Thanks for the quick reply.
