about Materials

I have to questions about applying materials

1- I've create an inplace family which is a four sided sweep cornice around a fall ceiling ... I've applied an image with the cornice ornament to my inplace sweep. the problem is that i cannot articulate the material map right to the four sides .. it appears right on one side and it's massed up in the other 3 sides

2- when i duplicate certain material, fabric for example, to create new one with different mat for ... the original one changes too ..

Thanks was helpful ... what about aligning patterns to surfaces ???

You can align materials to surfaces by assigning a surface pattern to the material in the graphics tab, make sure it's a 'model' pattern. Change the visual style to 'hidden line', and now you will be able to select the pattern by using the 'tab' key. You can move or rotate the pattern.

You can also use 'texture alignment' in the material editor to match up the model surface pattern to the rendered appearance.
