Cannot Select Objects in the Model

I recently copy/monitored columns into our model from our structural consultant. I noticed no problems with these columns, however, the other person in our office working in the model cannot select the columns when he is in the model, only I can select them. It is a worksharing enabled model, I have not checked out the workset for the columns, and it is not in a design option. Does anyone know why my colleague cannot interact with these columns in our model?

It was the new control buttons on the bottom right hand corner of the Revit interface. My counterpart inadvertently had the Select Pinned Elements disabled, and we didn't notice that was the issue.
