View Full Version : 2012 Revit: Sweep Void in Walls within Groups

Each group is a complete residential unit, copied numerous times across the site and over multiple levels.

Scenario: Standard walls within the group requires some void sweeps to create joint effects in plaster.

I am unable to create the path and extrusion void sweep within the group, so I created these independently and then cut them from the wall geometry that is within the group.

Problem is this doesn't update in the other groups. I am unable to copy the void sweeps to other groups and so far the only way to do this would be to create the same paths and sweeps for each and every group within the project, or alternatively, delete each group, and replace with the one group that has the void sweeps. Both of which are not ideal.

As a newbie to Revit I feel I am missing something here.

TIA

It would be a lot easier to copy projects on a site file then groups. it would also solve your problem with voids

How about Wall Reveal tool under the wall tab?

Edit: …or, if your reveals are not linear or they are angled, create void sweep outside of the group (like you did) and then add the sweep to the group. All groups should update.

Now that sounds like a plan. I will keep that in mind for the next multi-unit project. I fear by changing this now, I will loose a lot of joined geometry. Or is there a way to avoid that too?

Wall Reveal tab has done the trick. Now I'll go and find out how to create the profile I need.

I can't quite figure out how to add the sweep in your 2nd suggestion to the group, because, once I've finished my sweep it asks me to either cut an object or delete the instances.

Thank you both

Simply take your group, save it (Right-Click from the Project Browser) and then re-insert it as a link file. Nothing lost

You need to cut the object. Click on Cut Geometry tool 93504 , pick void sweep and then wall to cut. Don’t forget to add the sweep to the group when you’re done cutting.

OK, I did some testing (Revit 2014) and this is very odd. When you do not cut the object right after void sweep creation and you allow that warning window to show up,

93506

you won’t be able to cut the wall at all with this profile any more. It doesn’t matter if this a group or not, even if you rename the profile family, it just simply doesn’t work anymore (???). Is this a bug, or normal behavior? Am I missing something here? Very weird.

So, make sure you cut the wall right after you’re done with your sweep or you will have to pick a different profile.
