revitrage

Hello everybody,
I am a technician at a structural engineering practise and we have recently intoduced revit to our office.
I have a project approaching which the architect has already produced a revit model. Although I have read about the principles of using a live model I have been advised this will not be the case on this project. Can anybody advise as to what the best practise is in terms of working with/using the architects model or should I be modeling myself from scratch?.. Alternatively is there anywhere I can go to research best practices for working with architects also using revit?..
Many thanks.
