I have a phased project. I have attached Existing.dwg & Phase-1.dwg to Phase-2.dwg and made them attachment style in hopes that I could simply attach Phase-2.dwg to all sheet.dwg(s) so layer managing to phase1 (fading) could be done once.

Now when I create new sheets and attach phase-2.dwg with attached (nested) Phase-1 and existing the two X-ref layers are coming in as they are in original files.

Is there a way for me to attach Phase-2 Base file with (2) X-refs attached to all 15 new sheet.dwgs and only layer manage Phase-1 & Existing ONCE?

You could make your layer changes to Phase-1 within the Phase-2 drawing. Then you would want to export a layer state with those changes. After referencing Phase-2 into other drawings, you would then import and restore that same layer state.

Another idea would be to have your base (xref) files all set with the layers how you want them to appear, and then run a lisp to "reset" them.

I had posted a crude routine HERE (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?63937-Batch-Layer-change&p=727565&viewfull=1#post727565)
And Lee Mac has nice routine that will do this too (attached)
