Extracting attribute information

I realise that somebody has asked this before, however I cannot get my template file to work - I keep getting "Invalid field specification".
I even copied and pasted a previous reply from Mike Perry and that didn`t seem to work either.
Does anybody have a template file that they know works?
I am using Autocad 2004LT ( Employer too tight to buy full version )
