I a newbe to this site. On Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 I tried to plot a drawing using AutoCAD 2000. Instead, I got an error window, saying, "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at 5e2586h". This error comes up when I try to preview a plot, and also if I try to plot without previewing. I think the "0x0000" is common to all machines, and the "5e2586h" is specific to my machine. It comes up when plotting to my printer, and also when plotting to a .pdf file, using "CutePDF". I've been using "CutePDF" for about 2 years, to send drawings to a client who is computer-challanged. I have been using AutoCAD 2000 since it came out almost 14 years ago. (I'm retired, I can't upgrade to something more expensive, and 2000 does wht I want it to do.) I have been using 3D and custom lisp routines on it for most of that time. I ran Avast and Spybot to check the computer. Nothing. I unloaded and reloaded AutoCAD 2000. Still had the problem. Most virus checkers don't check for specialized viruses aimed at relatively obscure programs, like AutoCAD 2000. I posted this on another CAD site, and discovered that 3 other people had the same problem, starting on the same day. It seems to me that it is not coincidence that this happened to 3 other people the same day. That's why I think it's a virus. Any ideas?

Hi, welcome to AUGI.
I'd follow up the Windows update suggestion given on the other site.

AutoCAD is most likely "soft-locked" unless it is a very early copy bought outside of north America and has a hardware device "dongle" plugged into a serial [or parallel? I forget] port.
