Will custom materials transfer with project?

I want to send a project file to a client so he can view the model. When he opens the file, will he see the same custom materials I have in my project file? I seem to remember getting a file from someone else and the materials didn't transfer. If they don't transfer, how can I get them to transfer?

They don't and there's no pack-n-go that I know of. You'll have to organize the files and send them separately.
