point cloud highlight makes screen solid purple.

Ive have not had this problem in previous versions, in fact selecting the point cloud use to be kind of difficult...

now I have to keep my cursor away from the point cloud if I hope to see anything. otherwise hovering over any part of the point cloud turns everything solid purple. Is there a feature to prevent this?

I saw another post which was flagged as a duplicate, but could not find one why any kind of answer.

and the answer... in the bottom right hand corner there is a toggle button "Select Links"
