Guys,
I'm really struggling here, I may just be being stupid but for the life of me I cant seem to work it out. It is possible it cant be done but I dont understand why it would not be possible. Ok the problem is...
I'm attempting to create a profile to be used in a sweep. In this instance the profile is of a step. I want to be able to array the step within the profile and then control the number of steps. Seems simple however when i do this and load it in a project only one step shows. It seems when the lines become grouped (which is always going to happen when items are arrayed), it doesnt show them in the project as my profile. I obviously cant nest a profile within a profile, i cant create it as a detail component within a profile, I am at a loose end.
Any help would be good or if anyone has ever come up with a work around for this I'd be interested.

Please provide an image of what you are trying to do. It is not quite clear.
Maybe you are using an incorrect workflow. Profiles families are not supposed to be inserted in the view as other families, but "used" in sweeps, swept blends, wall sweeps, fascias, etc.

Alfredo,
Hopefully the image I have provided will clear things up. Bare in mind I understand how profiles and sweeps work, this problem has arisen from trying to push the boundaries of Revit through Dynamo, yet I have hit a stumbling block in what I can only see as a simple error in Revit.
As you can see from the picture all I have done is created a simple step profile, and then arrayed these lines to create step 2, 3 and so on. I need this as I need to be able to control the steps later on. Seems simple right?!
However when I load the profile into a project and create a sweep the profile is shows only one step rather than the designated number. Very bizarre. My attempts at nesting a profile within a profile hasn’t worked as it seems to not like groups in profiles.
If anyone has come to a work round or found a solution to this I would be grateful to hear it.

I am confused. What is the final goal? An escalator, or a family that is like a stair with several steps? I don't understand some parts of your message, such as:
"...I load the profile into a project and create a sweep..." Comments: I thought you were working in the family editor. Why in a project?
"...nesting a profile within a profile..." Comments: Why would you need to nest a profile into another profile?

I'm not sure the final goal in this instance particulalry matters, however Im trying to produce a stand for a sporting venue. Hence why there is steps, but i need to control the number of steps etc. In regards to to working within a project - this is irrelevant, whether I am creating a model-in-place within a project or working in a family, the outcome is the same in bioth instances. And nesting a profile into another was my attempt at a work around as the it doesnt work!!
Im not sure I can explain it any simpler to be honest. I have attached my profile family. Maybe if you load this into a project/family and try creating a sweep using it you will see my problem?

Well, asking questions is relevant. You're the one who knows what you're doing. I don't. I have to ask questions. OK, so you want to do some bleachers.
Then, use this sequence:
Family 1 > profile category > (draw the section of one bench, just one)
Family 2 > generic model or furniture category > (create reference planes and a parameter to control the length of the bench) > (create a sweep) > load family 1 into family 2. Use family 1 as the profile of the sweep. Now create an array with this sweep from its side elevation. Use the "last" method of the array. Click two points in diagonal, following the slope of the bleachers. Finish the array. Then select the array again and select the number of elements. Associate that number to an integer parameter. Now you have control over the number of benches in the bleacher. Finally, load into project and adjust parameters.
