Revit 2013- I want to create openings in a concrete wall, and have experienced some issues. These are basically doorways, but for modeling purposes I just want the opening. (no door, just a void int he wall). First, if I use 'modify profile', then the footing will go up to the header height, as if the wall was stepped. When i try to use the 'cut opening' tool, there does not seem to be a way to center the opening or even get a precise measurement to the center of the opening. I have tried drawing the outline first, but the tool does not snap to anything and I am subject to the steadiness of my mouse trying to locate the opening precisely. I imagine there is a way to do this easily... anyone know what that is?

Thanks!

How about Openings family?

Yup, like above, just create an opening family. Start with a generic model wall based family. punch an opening in the wall & lock to the parameters you want. I have created a few various ones, types, full instance based and ones with archways.

Not even a need to create one. Just get it from the Library (OOTB).

Thanks for the replies. However- I do not have any 'openings' families other than those in the division 8 folder, or doors that have at least frames around them. I want just an opening- no hardware of any kind. As far as creating an opening family, that is above my skill level. It may be too involved to ask here how to do it; maybe there is a link someone could share to a tutorial?

In Revit, click on Insert tab, type ‘openings’ in Search Autodesk Seek window, pick Generic from Filter panel on the left hand side of the screen. You can download some OOTB openings from there.
