Cannot select any objects in drawing

I have received an Autocad drawing to modify some objects in. However, I am unable to select any of the objects in the figure, i.e. when I move over an object it is not highlighted. I have added a snapshot in the attachment!

Can someone help me out here? Thanks!

I don't use the Mac version. With that, the only thing I can think of would be the PICKFIRST system variable. That is probably not it, but it is the first thing I would typically try.

The UCS icon indicates you are in paper space. Maybe the objects are in model space?

Maybe try running an audit and a purge on the dwg. If that doesn't work I'd give'r a restart to see if the problem remains.
