View Full Version : 2014 View Template Unhides All

As I work through my views, stair sections for instance. I like to have them all linked up to the same template. Because I need some elements of a particular category but not all of them, or so I can show the drawing more clearly - I have to hide some elements by view.
When I tweak my view template, or even turn on "temporary view properties" -- everything is unhidden. Is this the way it should be? Why cant I tweak the template, which applies to all the drawings, and still keep my specific elements hidden on a view-by-view basis?
Am I doing something wrong here that I don't know about? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

I not sure what you need to turn off "by view" but did you look into filters?

If an element is "Hidden in View", then that 'status' should be completely independent of the View Template. You should be able to tweak the View Template or even change it to another without losing the status of the hidden elements. I've tested and have been unable to reproduce this behavior.
Perhaps you can walk us though the steps you're taking or post some images?

Certainly. I'll clarify what I'm doing.
I have a section view, with the mechanical model showing. I select it, right click, 'Hide in View - Elements'. Then the model is hidden, as shown below.

Later I tweak the view template in some way, change my walls to show 'coarse' for example, and then accept. When I look at the section I was working on, the mechanical model is no longer hidden -- it is now showing up in my view again, as in the below image.

That seems strange. Are you able to reproduce this same behavior in a blank Project?

Yep, in all of my Revit 2014 projects actually. I was under the belief that those were independent of each other as well, but for some strange reason they seem to be linked. My thought on it was that it is re-applying the template again, thus "starting fresh" each time the template is changed/edited/applied.
This is not the case for you? What version of Revit are you using?

My Revit 2014 functions as expected - hidden elements remain hidden. Is this problem only affecting elements that belong to the linked model? Would you be able to post a small sample of a Project File so I can see if I have the same issue?

I just made a new project, even with the same template and that behavior is not replicating. It seems to be isolated to only my one project. The other instances where this became an issue is a workstation at a separate office (different project). However, that said, I cannot replicate the problem and I cannot make it stop in my current project. Any suggestions?
I'm sorry in advance, I cannot post the model, it is a private project.

Unfortunately, without something to look at I'm at a loss - I've not seen this happen before.

If you are on Subscription, you may want to open a support case. They will also want your model, but the privacy issue should be reduced over posting it in a public forum.
