I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 but now Revit every once in a while goes through an update for the new windows 8.1. However, the update does not update but crashes. How do I fix this problem?

Refer

which is the system requirements for revit. Windows 8.1 is unsupported. win 8.1.1 is due very soon. Autodesk are not in step with Microsoft but this may change when the 2015 products come out in a few months.

I recently upgraded to windows 8.1

Before upgrading something as fundamental as the operating system, you MUST check that all your critical software will run on the newer version. That's part of managing your environment. You should probably roll back to the previous Windows version.

I've heard people having no issues with Revit and Windows 8.1....when Revit is installed after the 8.1 update or already updated.

Would you take the chance...................................................?

Actually, I have taken that chance. It works on my home computer which is Windows 8.1

Of course, it really depends on the person. Some people don't know computers very well, some people are afraid of hurting the technology, others could fix just about anything. I fall in the later category, but it works for me. The bigger question: would you really want to run Windows 8. anything? I've used it long enough to tolerate it, but still hate it on a "normal" computer. But in a software environment (inside the program) the software runs great.

I always run a second computer exactly for that. And Windows 8 or 8.1 is definitely a no go for us. We might be on 7 for a while :)

My caution is not because I am timid around computers. I have managed UNIX environments with hundreds of users, and Acad since release 12. My caution is focused around the data. I like to ask project managers and users alike if they know how many paychecks are in the central file. That usually sobers them up.

I'm not sure if this is what the OP did, but I personally would NEVER try to upgrade the OS in-place from one major release to another, with programs still installed. No way, no how. That's just asking for trouble. I always do a clean install and reinstall the required software fresh. Takes longer, of course, but prevents LOTS of problems down the road.

That's funny!

Luckily, I had no issues....Windows 8.1 installed very quickly and easily... Once I was connected to the company network BDS 2014 installed with no issues. Well, I take that back. The only issue I had is the service packs didn't install like they were supposed to so I had to do all of them later. Love having an SSD drive though, everything installs so quickly.

Damn....I thought it was real.....because I could so see it happening.....

Of course Bill has a screen that is the size of drafting table.....he is pretty smart.....but it would show how hosed Microsoft has gotten since his departure....
