Hi,

Having problems using Revit, in my University i am using REVIT 2014 but due to system requirement the latest version i can use at home is 2013. When i try to open the project on 2013 version the following appears "the file...was saved in a later version of Revit and cannot be retrieved in this version."

Basically i am wondering if there is any way around this, for example save it a different way in the latest version.

Many Thanks in advance
Jordan

Short answer is no, Revit is not capable to go back to earlier versions, it can bring older versions forward, but not the reverse.
Not like CAD where you can save a 2014.dwg as a LTversion.dwg for example.

Craig's right. There never has been and probably never will be a Save As Old Version for Revit. There are some work-arounds, such as Export to IFC, but you lose so much in the process, it's not really a Revit project anymore.
I have to ask, though, what kind of "system requirement" is preventing you from installing 2014? The specs really didn't change all that much from 2013 to 2014 and I'd have a hard time believing that a University project would require a monster system to run it.
There's nothing in here
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=15385625&linkID=9243099
that says 2014 needs much more.

I believe (or was told at some point) that it has to do with the engine it uses for analysis changing in each version, and it is not back-communicable.
That could be wrong, but either way, you can't go backwards.

Yep....Revit 2014 is 7 and up only....Lot's AutoCAD users are going to freak when they try to install AutoCAD 2015 and they still have Windows XP.

You can pick up a copy of Windows 7 for less than $100 on Ebay. It might be worth it to upgrade.

Yes, you're all correct, the short answer is you can't roll back a project from a newer version to an older version.
Final answer is you can. But you'll have to send it to adesk and I believe for a small fee, they will roll it back.
I was talking with a Software rep that told me this option is available, and they were going to write one, but they don't have quite enough access to the API to be able to do it. But from what I've heard Adesk wrote one, but doesn't want to sell it. Much easier to force people to upgrade this way.
