View Full Version : Clients/others cant read dwg 2004 format??

How many times have we all done this - send a CD or email with a load of drawings only to get the call "we cant open Autocad 2004 files - YOU will need to send them again" so you have mess about doing it all again so others can open the files.......

Well, never again...... open any version of DWG, in any version of Autocad. Cant wait to get that first phone call asking me to do another load of drawings because somebody cant open them :)

That's a cool link Martin. Solidworks...Interesting.
I'll be talking to my primary engineers about Revit Structure soon (I'm not a var), so hopefully if they
decide to buy, they will be able to use this plug-in to coordinate with all their clientele as well.
Otherwise, for an engineering firm, how can you upgrade to something like RS if you cannot communicate electronically with all of your customer base?

The edrawing viewer is excellent. One of our partners has just purchased a Apple powerbook & needed a viewer for Autocad 2000 & 2004 format drawings. The edrawing viewer running under OSX solved the problem! I wonder why Autodesk don't have a similar offering?

One caveat with the AutoCAD Batch converter. You need to have AutoCAD 2004 (or 5 or 6, I think) installed on the same computer as the Batch converter. I did find, however, that it doesn't need to be LICENSED for that computer. I installed but didn't Authorize 2004 on a PC, and then installed the Batch Converter. Converter works fine, so I assume it must use some DLLs from 2004.
